Next up: The Great British Bank Holiday and Daimler 130 at Wythall — Sun 30 – Mon 31 Aug 2026, Worcestershire.
Most bus museums are volunteer-run and open on set days, and an open day is when they get the fleet out. Instead of a quiet shed you get vehicles moving, visiting buses from other collections, a free service to the nearest station or town centre, and someone in the workshop happy to show you what a Gardner engine looks like in bits.
The London Bus Museum at Brooklands holds its Spring Gathering in April. The London Transport Museum Depot at Acton opens a handful of weekends a year and holds the reserve collection, which is the one to see if you like the stuff that never makes it into the main museum. The Oxford Bus Museum sits next to Hanborough station, so it works as a train day out. Wythall near Birmingham runs buses and trolleybuses on site, Lathalmond near Dunfermline is the biggest collection in Scotland, and East Anglia Transport Museum at Carlton Colville runs buses, trams and trolleybuses on one site.
Entry is usually £5 to £12 with rides included and children often free. If you want moving buses on an ordinary weekend instead, Beamish and the Black Country Living Museum run heritage services most days they are open.

On an open day they run the vehicles. Normal opening gets you the collection standing still, which is fine but quieter. Open days add visiting buses from other museums, free services off site, workshop tours and more stalls.
Almost always, yes, and you can ride as many times as you like. A few museums ask for a small extra donation on longer runs off site. Nobody counts your trips.
Usually £5 to £12 for adults on an open day, less on a normal opening day, and children are frequently free. Several museums are charities where the entry fee is the restoration budget, so the shop and the tea hut are worth using.
Some, easily. The Oxford Bus Museum is beside Hanborough station and Acton Depot is a short walk from Acton Town. Others, like Lathalmond, effectively need a car, though open days often lay on a free vintage bus link from the nearest town.
Many close or drop to occasional weekends from November to March, since most sheds are unheated. Acton Depot and the December running days keep the winter interesting. Always check the listing rather than assuming last year's dates.
