The county show is the biggest day in the farming year, and for anyone who likes machinery it is criminally underrated. A big show puts acres of brand new kit on grass, combines and telehandlers and tractors you can climb into, alongside vintage sections, steam engines, heavy horses and a main ring that runs all day. You get more machinery in one afternoon than at most dedicated shows.
The nationals anchor the calendar: the Royal Highland at Ingliston in June, the Royal Welsh at Builth Wells and the Great Yorkshire at Harrogate in July, Balmoral at Lisburn in May, and the Royal Norfolk, the largest two-day show in the country, at the end of June. Then there are the county and village shows, which are often the better day out because you can actually get round them.
We list the dates as the societies publish them, with the showground postcode so the near-me search works properly. Where a society has not yet announced next year, the show sits here as an annual fixture awaiting dates rather than carrying a date we guessed.

When is the Royal Highland Show 2027?
Thursday 17 to Sunday 20 June 2027 at the Royal Highland Centre, Ingliston, Edinburgh EH28 8NB. Tickets went on sale well ahead of the show.
When is the Great Yorkshire Show 2027?
Tuesday 13 to Friday 16 July 2027 at the Great Yorkshire Showground, Harrogate HG2 8NZ, open 8am to 6pm daily. It is run by the Yorkshire Agricultural Society.
What is the biggest county show in the UK?
By attendance the Royal Welsh at Builth Wells and the Royal Highland at Edinburgh are the giants, and the Royal Norfolk is the largest two-day show in the country. Balmoral is the biggest in Northern Ireland.
Are county shows worth going to for the machinery?
Yes, and more so than most people expect. Manufacturers and dealers take large outdoor stands with current machinery you can walk around and usually climb into, and most shows also run a vintage section with tractors and steam engines.
Are county shows good for children?
They are among the best family days out in the countryside calendar. Livestock lines, main ring displays, food halls and have-a-go areas keep most ages busy for a full day, though the big four-day shows involve a lot of walking.
Why do some shows here have no date?
Because the society has not published one yet. Rather than guess, we list the show as an annual fixture with its usual month and add the exact dates the week they are announced.
