Two green Ruston-Bucyrus cable excavators work a mound of white chalk in a stubble field at the Great Dorset Steam Fair, one dropping its dragline bucket while an operator stands beside the other, beneath towering cumulus clouds.

Plant Shows & Expos

Next up: Vertikal Days 2026 — Wed 9 – Thu 10 Sep 2026, Nottinghamshire.

Plant shows split into two camps. Trade expos are where manufacturers demonstrate new machines, and the big ones are open to anyone willing to register: Vertikal Days at Newark on 9 and 10 September 2026 for cranes and access platforms, PlantWorx in Birmingham on 22 to 24 June 2027 for construction kit shown working rather than parked, and Hillhead, held inside a working quarry near Buxton, next in June 2028.

The other camp suits a family Saturday. The Doe Show at Maldon in Essex, 2 to 4 February 2027, has free entry and free parking and lands conveniently close to half term. The Forest Vintage Show at Coleford on 13 September 2026 is a classic vintage rally with a strong plant section, adults £9 and under 15s free. APF, the forestry machinery show near Alcester on 24 to 26 September 2026, charges £25 in advance with under 16s free, and the live harvester demos justify it.

Check the access rules before setting off. The Executive Hire Show in Coventry (10 and 11 February 2027) is approved trade visitors only, while UK Construction Week Birmingham and No-Dig Live, both late September 2026, just want a registration. Every listing here says which camp an event falls into, with dates, postcode and the booking link.

Shows & Expos: your questions answered

When is PlantWorx 2027?

22 to 24 June 2027 in Birmingham. It is one of the biggest construction equipment shows in the country, with machines demonstrated live in the dirt rather than sat on stands, which is exactly what you want from a plant show.

Can the public visit trade plant shows?

It depends on the show. The Doe Show is free to everyone with free parking, and Vertikal Days, No-Dig Live and Hillhead ask only for a free registration. The Executive Hire Show is approved trade visitors only, and each of our listings states the rules before you plan the trip.

Which plant shows are free to attend?

The Doe Show at Maldon (2 to 4 February 2027) has free entry and free parking, and Vertikal Days at Newark is free for registered visitors, as is Hillhead in 2028. The Oddball dragline open days at St Aidan's are free too, though they sit in our digger days section.

What is Hillhead?

A quarrying and construction show staged inside a working quarry near Buxton in Derbyshire, next running in June 2028. Machines demonstrate on real rock faces, which no exhibition hall can match, and entry is free for registered visitors.

Which plant show is best for children?

The Doe Show, for the free entry, free parking and February half-term timing, with the Forest Vintage Show at Coleford (13 September 2026, adults £9, under 15s free) close behind for its mix of plant, tractors and vintage machinery. Pure trade expos are less fun with a pushchair.
